Recommended Summer Camps

One of the most common questions I get asked from parents is what summer camps and clinics should they send their son/daughter to. I used to send a template email I laying out all the opportunities in the area that have a solid reputation for delivering skill instruction, fun, and reliability. Now, I've compiled them in a much easier and accessible format:

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH CAMPS

First and foremost, I always recommend young players attend their home high school youth camp. The camps are not just a chance to get better, but it's also an opportunity to get to know your school's varsity staff, interact with the current varsity players, and learn the program's culture, community, and emphasized skills. It's almost never worth it to go to an independent camp or AAU event instead of your high school's own youth camp.

With a staff-camper ratio of 5:1 your son will get high-level, personalized instruction in all areas of the game. To maximize development and encourage creativity, our camp emphasizes LIVE COMPETITION: contests, small-sided games, 1v1, 3v3, and 5v5.  Our staff includes some of the top coaches and high school players in the area. This combination of teaching and mentorship will make our camp the highlight of your son’s hoops summer.

SUMMER PERFORMANCE CAMP

I've yet to hear anyone come away from a 24:Up event with a bad experience. The Pat Connaughton affiliated club offers a wide range of skill and camp opportunities. 24:Up delivers elite teaching with a family atmosphere, a unique environment to find these days. At every camp or clinic you'll find 24:UP alumni working as either coaches or counselors to help mentor the next generation.  The performance academy includes skills as well as strength and agility work.

Coach Lou Chapman runs a series of excellent camps throughout the entire state. The camps are day-long and are packed with skills, games, agility, and team-building.  The camp also evaluates each player on day one to ensure they are separated into appropriate skill groups. Coach Chapman pours energy and intensity into each camp and has a knack for getting that same intensity out of each camper. Your kid will fall asleep on the way home.

CBA runs an extensive array of camp opporunities each summer, including day camps, elite camps, shooting camps, and rookie camps. Highly recommended would be shooting camps led by Steve Novak, scoring camps led by Joe Chapman, and guard camps led by Travis Diener.  All former pros, excellent teachers of the game, and great mentors.

Luke Meier has been a staple in the Milwaukee basketball skill scene for over 15 years. A former collegiate player and coach, Luke brings substantial wealth of knowledge and depth of experience. As the name implies, RealWork won't have your son or daughter dancing around invisible defenders or standing in long lines. They'll receive the same instruction Luke provides to the NBA/NCAA players he's trained. It's not uncommon to have a pro stop by and jump in a drill.
